Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2 continues this tradition of awesome transformations, adding one that became popular the moment it was introduced in Dragon Ball Super: T: Super Saiyan God Super Saiyan, better known as Super Saiyan Blue. First demonstrated by Goku, this transformation grants its user a massive power spike as well as a flashy blue aura to show off. Here’s everything that players need to know about how to unlock Super Saiyan Blue in Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2.

What Is Super Saiyan Blue?

A quick glance at Goku’s hair and aura is all that anime fans need to gauge his current power level. From a monkey-tailed boy to a Saiyan God, Goku’s power has skyrocketed throughout the anime, leading to the moment in Dragon Ball Super when he first achieves Super Saiyan God Super Saiyan (SSGSS). Ever since this transformation was first revealed, anime fans have been eager to get their hands on this powerful transformation.

SSGSS can be activated when the player reaches five bars of Ki. Activating this ability has a downside, however, in that the player’s Ki meter will gradually deplete as long as they remain in this form, a necessary restriction to keep this powerful ability from being completely OP. While in this form, the character’s damage-dealing potential skyrockets, so players can make quick work of opponents as long as they time Blue’s activation well. It’s also worth noting that unlike Kaio-ken, which causes the character to stagger when the power wears off, Blue causes no staggering, so the player isn’t left exposed to attack just because their power ended.

How To Unlock Super Saiyan Blue?

In the anime, Goku unlocks Super Saiyan Blue thanks to his extensive training with Whis, the right-hand man of the God of Destruction Beerus. This unlocking method more or less holds true in Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2 as well. To unlock the power, the player must train with Whis while using a character who is Level 90 or above.

The player must max out their friendship with Whis. To do so, undertake the 23rd quest, The Explosion of Namek, in which the player fights Frieza. Its difficulty is only 3 Stars, and since the player will be going into this fight with a high-level character, it shouldn’t be too difficult, even if the player isn’t landing every iconic anime punch.

Choose a Level 90+ Saiyan as the main character on the team and two Whis as support characters. Grinding this mission repeatedly with Whis on the team will quickly build up Friendship with that character, ultimately unlocking Super Saiyan God Super Saiyan. Though grinding isn’t the most thrilling thing in the world, there’s good news: this entire training process can be completed in less than half an hour if the player is diligent. Before long the player’s Saiyan will be draped in that iconic blue aura, and opponents won’t know what hit them.

Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2 is now available for PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and Stadia.
