Of course, the series did lean heavily towards its tournament roots in this season, with the introduction of several new characters occurring naturally through this formal while established characters got enough time to develop as well. Here’s a detailed look at some Dragon Ball’s best characters.

15 Goku
Age: 41 (34 physically) Height: 5'9" (175 cm) Birthday: April 18th
Goku is the main protagonist of the franchise, with the series following his entire life; starting from when he was a young child to becoming a grandfather. Goku has faced many evil villains and upgraded his Saiyan skills to extreme strengths through each arc.
The father of Goten and Gohan and husband to Chi-Chi has lived a wild and action-packed life so far, bringing the good out of his friends and companions.
14 Vegeta
Age: 46 Height: 5'5 (164 cm) Birthday: August 14th
Vegeta is another full-blooded Saiyan alongside Goku who spends most of the series trying to get stronger. He and his rival are constantly fluctuating in power, surpassing one another over and over throughout the series.
Vegeta is married to Bulma and together they raise their son Trunks. Vegeta is typically angry, grumpy, or irritated, making him a nice counter to Goku. He is a dependable and tough Saiyan who can take down nearly any foe challenging him and his friends.
13 Trunks
Age: 12 Height: 4'3" (129 cm) Birthday: November, Age 766
Trunks is the son of Vegeta and Bulma, making him half Earthling and half Saiyan. He is best friends with Goten, Goku’s younger son, and they are basically inseparable.
He is quite cocky and proud of his strength and skills, and is not afraid to brag about himself. Over time, he matures and becomes more stoic and well-mannered like his father. He is eager to learn and grow in power from his mentors and father.
12 Goten
Age: 11 Height: 4'0" (123 cm) Birthday: August 26th
Son of Goku and brother of Gohan, Goten is a powerful half-Saiyan who loves living wild and free. He shares the same mischievous and adventurous personality as his father when he was a child, but he has a better head on his shoulders due to his mother’s guidance.
He and his best friend Trunks have the ability to fuse together using the Fusion Dance to become Gotenks, an insanely strong Saiyan entity.
11 Gohan
Age: 21 Height: 5'9" (175 cm) Birthday: May 18th
Gohan is the oldest son of Goku, making him a half-Saiyan. Though he is incredibly strong and has great control over his Saiyan abilities, he doesn’t enjoy violence and prefers to study than fight.
Gohan grows up to become a scholar and falls in love with Videl. He is naturally smart, humble, kind, and protective over those he cares about. Gohan proved he was one of the strongest characters in Dragon Ball Z through his insane transformations and attacks.
10 Future Trunks
Age: 31 Height: 5'7 (170 cm) Birthday: November, Age 766
Future Trunks is from an alternate dimension. He grew up in a very different, gruesome world where he grew coldhearted, reserved, and well-mannered.
He travels back in time to protect change the future and faces many tough villains to achieve his goal. He is back in Dragon Ball Super to continue protecting those he cares about. Future Trunks is one of the most popular protagonists in the franchise.
9 Bulma
Age: 45 Height: 5'5" (165 cm) Birthday: August 18th
Bulma is a highly intelligent human with a very temperamental personality. She is tough, tomboyish, and won’t back down from a challenge, but she can also show her feminine side.
Though she isn’t as strong physically as the other characters, many of them still show fear towards her when she gets angry. Bulma loves her appearance, thinks very highly of herself, and can act quite snobby at times. She works hard as a mother and a scientist and is a super cool female character in the series.
8 Chi-Chi
Age: 41 Height: 5'4" (163 cm) Birthday: May 12th
Chi Chi is one of the strongest human women in the entire world and is married to Goku. She is a very strict and protective mother over her two sons and gets irritated when they break the rules.
Chi Chi was a big advocate of Gohan pursuing academics rather than fighting, as he had a natural talent for it and preferred not to fight. She loves her family and will do anything she can to keep them safe.
7 Krillin
Age: 42 Height: 5'1" (156 cm) Birthday: October 29th
Krillin is known as one of the most powerful and skilled martial artists in the entire world. He trained under Master Roshi alongside Goku, quickly changing from his rival to his lifelong best friend.
He is very brave, loyal, tough, and a bit jealous. It is said that he is a thousand times stronger than the average human being, though his non-human friends still tease him for being the weakest of the bunch.
6 Piccolo
Age: 25 Height: 7'5" (226 cm) Birthday: May 9th
This bone-crushing character is a Namekien and a part of the Dragon Clan, the original creators of the Dragon Balls. Piccolo was introduced in the franchise as an antagonist, out to defeat Goku.
However, by Dragon Ball Z and Super, he is a companion to the Saiyans on Earth and fights alongside them in many battles. He is typically always very stern, grumpy, and likes being alone. He never smiles and isn’t the most friendly of people.
5 Master Roshi
Age: Around 350 Height: 5'5" (165 cm) Birthday: Age 430
Master Roshi is a master of martial arts and taught multiple of the main characters in the Dragon Team all they know about fighting. He is a hermit that has lived for over three hundred years due to his impressive health.
Master Roshi also acts immaturely and inappropriately a lot of the time. He may not be the most respected character, and he could definitely use a personality change, but he is undeniably a dangerous force to mess with.
4 Beerus
Age: Over 200 Million Height: 5'9" (175 cm) Birthday: Unknown
This menacing God of Destruction wants the total destruction of Earth and will fight anyone on the Dragon Team to make that happen. He desires to be respected as a god and has a very mean yet lazy personality.
He is well-mannered and speaks very politely, as a higher being in power would. He is the toughest antagonist that Goku has had to face in Dragon Ball Super, making him a memorable and interesting villain.
3 Whis
Age: Over 200 Million Height: 7'7" (230 cm) Birthday: Unknown
Whis is an Angel that serves as Beerus’ mentor, a fact that surprised many when it was revealed at the end of the Battle of the Gods arc. He’s a charming character whose love for food never gets tiring to watch.
He’s also one of the strongest beings in the show and the most powerful deity in Universe 7. It’s easy to see why he has made such a strong and lasting impression, with his training of Goku and Vegeta allowing both Saiyans to heighten their powers to a level that is simply incredible.
2 Broly
Age: 48 Height: 9'0" (274 cm) Birthday: Age 737
Broly is the first-ever Legendary Super Saiyan that was shown in the series, making a lasting impression despite being a non-canon character for the longest time. With his appearance in Dragon Ball Super: Broly, this character has finally become a part of the main Dragon Ball narrative.
This Saiyan’s isolation caused him a lot of pain, making him fly into a rage whenever his emotions reach a peak. His fight against Gogeta is a thing of beauty and shows just how much power this character houses.
1 Frieza
Age: Over 50 Height: 5'2" (158 cm) Birthday: Unknown
Frieza is one of the most iconic Dragon Ball villains of all time. The fact that he was brought back in Dragon Ball Super shows just how much of a lasting impact this character really has.
Frieza’s new form has allowed him to stand toe-to-toe with the best in Dragon Ball Super. Of course, there are times when he gets the short end of the stick… but that is to be expected, given the sheer wealth of power characters possess nowadays in Dragon Ball Super.
