Now, later on into the latest console generation, fans are clamouring for the next instalment in the series, hoping that BioWare has figured out issues seen in Inquisition. However, it seems that we won’t actually be getting Dragon Age 4 for at least three more years.

According to VentureBeat, production of Dragon Age 4 is nowhere near close to completion. At the moment, BioWare is focusing on Anthem, the online multiplayer shooter that releases in early 2019. Reportedly, BioWare began pre-production on Dragon Age, but EA “threw out most of that work.” EA was more focused on live services, which Dragon Age wouldn’t fit into, forcing writer Mike Laidlaw, who outlined the initial plan for the upcoming instalment, to leave.

BioWare chief Casey Hudson spoke on the upcoming instalment on the official BioWare blog. In it he wrote:

That being said, according to sources close to BioWare, the game is at least three years away. EA and BioWare have yet to even decide on a name for the upcoming game, and the game has spent over a year in limbo.

There’s still an announcement planned for The Game Awards, so hopefully, we’ll hear more about the project soon.
