Deadrop is being developed by Midnight Society, a game studio founded by the self-proclaimed former face of Twitch, Dr Disrespect. The game is said to be a vertical extraction game that combines elements of FPS shooters, battle royale games like PUBG, and extraction style games. Some of the more important inspirations behind the game include the survival game Escape from Tarkov. The game was announced in August.

According to Dr Disrespect’s answer to the fan (at 1:01:38 in the video), he could be revealing details about Deadrop all day, every day. Updates are being made behind the scenes constantly and continuously. He seems visibly excited about the features that are scheduled to be announced in upcoming Snapshots. However, he wants to let the excitement linger a little and trusts that the marketing team is going to do a good job at presenting the evolution of the game.

Midnight Society has been revealing what it calls Snapshots into the development process. Snapshots are development team’s streams that detail some of Deadrop’s more important features, content, and game mechanics that have been added to the game after the previous update.

However, Dr Disrespect doesn’t leave the fans completely high and dry. He reveals that the team has been working on movement and level mechanics, and the game is starting to develop a proper FPS-style movement at this stage. He admits that it is still largely just building the foundation of the game, which is to say that it is still early in development. However, he is excited that the current stage lets them determine how fast-paced the game is going to be.

Deadrop is still going to be a low time-to-kill (TTK) game, which means that exposing the character can result in a very quick elimination, as the team has intended from the beginning. This also affects the pace of movement, which, according to Dr Disrespect, is going to be fast but not as fast as Call of Duty. One of the current challenges is to make the game feel fast with movement mechanics that aren’t as fast as some other games. He also revealed that while there are going to be regular Snapshots of future developments, there are also bigger reveals ahead.

Deadrop is currently in development.
